First PSD file: Ultra Web Buttons (760x2855) Open with Photoshop. If you open the file and see a grid and guides (Press Ctrl+H). That will hide grid and guides. To see the buttons actual size press (Ctrl+1). In the layers panel you see Buttons folder & Background Pattern layer. - Buttons - Background Pattern - Buttons All the buttons are in order numerically. Just click on the eye in front of the button forders to hide or unhide folders. All of the button folders structure is basically the same. All button folders consist of 3 parts: 1)Text If you want to move the text just make the text folder active and then press (V). Then you can move the text freely around. If you want to change the text just double click on the text layer. Be sure to click on the thumbnail part. This makes the text active and changeable. Then write your text, change font, font color or font size. If you dont have your text editing controls open go to Window/ Character If you have lots of text i recomend that you make the text box bigger. Fonts used: Harabara: http://www.dafont.com/harabara.font Continuum Medium: http://www.searchfreefonts.com/free/continuum-medium.htm 2)Icon & Logo Contains the logo shape and circle shapes that make up the icon button. You can hide or delete the logos or replace them with your own shapes. You can change the color on the layers panel. Just click on the color thumbnail and choose a color for the shape layer. If the color does not change. Then make the layer active. Go to the Blending options and look at 3 things that can block it. 1. Is the layers Fill Opacity 0% ? (make it 100%) 2. Is there Gradient Overlay on ? (turn it of) 3. Is there Color Overlay on ? (turn it of) If you want to make the icon circles or icon logos bigger.(press Ctrl+T). That brings out the transform option. I recommend that when you are resizing you hold down (Shift+Alt) and then drag it bigger or smaller. You also can scale layer styles. Layer / Layer Styles / Scale Effects. or use the shortcut Go to the layers panel. Choose the layer that has the layer style you want to scale. Hover your mouse on the (fx) effects symbol and right click on it and then choose Scale Effects. (I recoment that you first scale the object (shape layer) and then scale the style the same %) You can add new layer style to the icon circles from the Styles Panel. (Activate layer and click on style) If you dont have your styles panel open. Go to Window/Styles. Second way to add layer styles: If you see a style in one of the buttons that you like. Just click on that layer in the layers panel. Right click on the layer / then click Copy Layer Style Then click on the layer that you want to give it to. Right click on the layer / then click PASTE Layer Style. You can also customize all layer styles by hand. Right click on the layer / then click on Blending options. That will open layer styles box where you can customize. 3)Button Body That is the base of the button. Also customizable. If you want to re-shape the buttons body. You can use (Ctrl+T), but if you stretch the button then it distorts the body a little. If you want to stretch the buttons body. I recomend that you use the (A) tool. Press (A) This should make your cursor in to a white arrow. If it is black then press (Ctrl+A). Then click on the button border to get the buttons line path visible. Then drag a box around the points that you want to move. Hold down shift and drag the points where you want. Works perfectly. When you do that you see the possibilities of shaping the buttons body. Maybe adding more points to realy distort the shape. You can change the color on the layers panel. Just click on the color thumbnail and choose a color. Mix buttons up. It is so easy to do here. Just move the components around and you can easily make your own custom buttons. If you want to resize a hole button i recoment that you make the button folder into a smart object. Click on the button folder you want to resize. Right click / Convers to Smart object. Then press (Ctrl+T) that brings out the transform option. Then just hold down shift and resize it to as big or small you want. This way of resizing preserves the layer styles the way they are and you still have the opportunity to change the buttons content. To change a smart object just click on its thumbnail 2 times. You can convert to smart objects in Photoshop CS2 - CS5. You can use Image/Canavas Size to adjust the transparent area around the button. When yo have got the design right and image size the way you want. Then its time to SAVE FOR WEB. Edit/ Save for Web & Devices... There you can save the button to JPG, PNG or GIF.
